Today is my birthday. It's been a fine day at home with some purposeful relaxation in an otherwise frenzied fall.
K is home for the weekend and I'm reminded how much her presence adds to the personality of our home. We're spending the evening by the fireplace with some good wine and two games to track. We are monitoring game 3 of the World Series - Texas v San Francisco (the only concievable matchup that would cause me to root for Texas). But we are watching the Pittsburgh Steelers v New Orleans Saints.
As for the wine, I've found myself tending towards a favored Argentine Malbec of late. Somehow I feel closer to M in Bolivia when I open a bottle of this wine. And tonight is no different.
Of coarse the quite is shattered every few minutes by the doorbell - trick-or-treat. But I love seeing the eager children in costume as they select their treats from our bowl of candy and fruit snacks. Remarkably the fruit snacks have been the hot item tonight and my precious butterfingers remain mostly untouched for my later enjoyment.
And I've thought about J&M in their new suburban Sammaamish, Washington home and their new prospects for Halloween treat-seekers. This year's volume of treats should prove far different from that of their past years in their more rural Redmond location.
Ahhh, Denise is here to fill my glass as the fire dwindles and the doorbell subsides. It's been a good day.
